I look so young in this picture! I was 32 then, and Joseph was 6 and Gabriel was 1. It was 1981, so I am now 58 and Joe is 32 and Gabe is 27 and the father of Crystal and Jordan! Sigh. Who knows where the time goes?

The reason I chose to put this picture on the We’re Nuts page is because it was way back then that the seeds of Babynut were planted. I gave birth to Joe in 1975. I had him at home with two midwives present – their first home birth and mine! We were breaking new ground. The midwives were very supportive during pregnancy, labor and delivery. But once the baby was born everybody left! My partner had to work and I was left alone to learn how to be a mother. I learned then that post-partum support was as important as prenatal care.

I eventually went back to school to earn a Masters Degree in Psychology and became a therapist for abused women and children. My work has always involved children, their well-being and their right to love, kindness and the support to grow into caring, confident adults. Babynut - the products and philosophy - is the culmination of a professional life spent in support of children and families.
